4 Top Reasons To Become An Ambassador For The Gold Coast
Social media reporter, Courtney Quast, recently caught up with International Student Ambassadors, Dennis Kim, Calvin Xu and Babin Joy, to discover more about their experiences participating in the International Student Ambassador Program whilst studying on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
Gold Coast locals have the very good fortune of living, working and studying in one of the most beautiful parts of the world. Now, thanks to the Study Gold Coast – International Student Ambassador program, Griffith University students have the opportunity to experience all that the amazing Gold Coast has to offer as a team alongside students from other universities and colleges.
The Study Gold Coast Ambassador program aims to welcome international students to our city and to showcase our beautiful sun drenched lifestyle, quality education facilities and abundance of social and cultural experiences available to all of us.
Here are just a few of the reason why becoming an ambassador for your new home and study destination is an opportunity not to be missed:
1. Get immersed in the local lifestyle and culture
The International Student Ambassador Program, operated by Study Gold Coast, offers international students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a number of social, cultural and professional activities, whilst studying and living on the Gold Coast. They are provide with many new and exciting ways to engage with the local community and explore the city, the beaches and the beautiful hinterland as well.
2. Get professional work and industry experience
Professionally, the program allows international student ambassadors ‘to get their foot in the door’ by taking part in work experience in both the corporate world and local government.
“During the course of the year, each ambassador will attend the mayor’s office for a day,” said Babin. “That means meeting the mayor, Tom Tate and other local government staff. We will sit in on meetings, and get a feel for the day-to-day running of the city.”
Babin, Calvin and Dennis will also take part in work experience at the Marriot Hotel, Surfers Paradise.
“As student ambassadors we also get the opportunity to rub shoulders with international delegates, business leaders, and government staff and local personalities at cocktail parties, galas and other networking events,” said Dennis.
3. Get set for adventures
Last but definitely not least, is a list of adventure activities including surfing lessons, and stand-up paddle boarding, which have kept Babin, Calvin and Dennis busy and entertained this year. Kayaking and whale watching experiences are planned for the coming weeks.
“One of the best things about being part of the International Student Ambassador Program is that we are able to participate in some cool activities,” said Calvin.
“We get to see parts of the Gold Coast that we didn’t know about or would have otherwise not explored. You really learn a lot more about the place and the people,” he said.
4. Get social with it…
The team of student ambassadors are also asked to get social by sharing their experiences on social media like Facebook and Instagram for their friends and families from all over the world to see. So Babin, Calvin and Dennis are spreading the word with their photos, videos and status updates and helping to promote the Gold Coast as the ultimate city to live, work, study and play in.
