What’s on at Griffith over Sustainability Week
Sustainability week is on again this year from 28th August, 2017 – 1st September, 2017. Yes, it’s time to celebrate all things green and environmentally friendly! Over the week there will be heaps of events, information sessions and fun activities popping up across all campuses. With so much going on, we thought we would share a few must-do over sustainability week.
1. Sustainability Fair
When: Tuesday 29th August, 10:00am – 2:00pm
Where: Gold Coast campus, G10 – grassed area outside the library
The Sustainable Fair is a Gold Coast campus highlight over Sustainability Week. Enjoy free peddle powered smoothies, native plant give-aways and live music. You can also get up close and personal with some underwater creatures thanks to the School of Environment’s Touch Tank, or purchase some art at the QCA Art Sale.
2. QCA Enviro Market Stalls
When: Tuesday 29th August, 11:00am-1:00pm
Where: South Bank campus
The QCA are also getting into the sustainable spirit by holding a QCA Enviro Market. Browse through the enviro market stalls, enjoy some environmentally friendly snacks, get a Hanna Tattoo or check out some cute little critters at the Wildlife Encounter. There will also be sustainable jewellery on sale made by your fellow students from the Jewellery and Small Objects Collective. Come down and get involved!
3. Sustainability Film Festival
When: Monday 28th August, 12:00pm-1:00pm
Where: Mt Gravatt campus, Lecture Theatre M10 1.30
Get a group of friends together, grab some lunch and enjoy some sustainability themed films. In addition to the films there will also be a prize draw so make sure you come along. Remember you have to be in it to win it!
4. Nathan Enviro Markets
When: Thursday 31st August, 10:00am – 8:00pm
Where: Nathan campus, The Campus Heart
If you are at Nathan make sure you stop by the Enviro market! Highlights include the Wildlife Encounter, Henna Tattoos, suitcase rummage, Macramé plant hanging workshops, and much more. There will also be massages! Yes, that’s right, come and de-stress with a nice relaxing massage.
5. Go Green with Griffith Mates
When & Where:
Gold Coast – Tuesday 29th August, 6:30pm-8:30pm G11 4.29 Skylounge
Nathan – Thursday 31st August, 6:30pm-8:30pm N35 Multi Faith Centre
Both international and domestic students are invited to the Go Green with the Griffith Mates event to celebrate Sustainability Week 2017. Attendees can look forward to fun environmentally focused games and activites, meeting some native animals, plant give-aways and a yummy sustainably sourced dinner. Register Now!
6. Lunchtime aboretum walk and healthy cooking demonstration
When: Wednesday 30th August, 12:00pm-1:00pm
Where: Logan campus – L07 outside security
The lunchtime aboretum walk will involve a tour to discover local flora and fauna and a brief history of the area. The cooking demonstration will show you how to cook healthy and delicious food whilst also reducing wastage. Come along and enjoy a free tour and lunch! 7. Eco Centre Community Forum
When: Thursday 31st August, 6:00pm – 8:00pm (refreshments 5:30pm-6:00pm)
Where: Nathan campus, N68 Griffith EcoCentre
In addition to fun activities there will also be a number of information sessions and discussion forums. The Nathan campus are hosting an Eco Centre Community Forum on Thursday night. The topic for discussion will be “Are we there yet? Exploring the future of Sustainable Transport” and will be presented by Jon Dee, Co-Founder of Planet Ark and DoSomething.
