5 Gold Coast walks to recharge the batteries
There is no better antidote to a stressful week than a nice leisurely stroll. Taking an hour or so to get outside, soak up some vitamin D and clear your head can make a world of difference when work gets a little overwhelming or those uni deadlines are looming. To help you get out and about, here are our top 5 walking tracks on the Gold Coast.
- Burleigh Heads National Park
Burleigh Heads is the perfect spot to take in sweeping coastal views, breathe in that salty air and wash away your worries. The ocean view track is an easy 1.2 km walk and follows the coastline from Burleigh Hill to Tallebudgera Creek. The 2.3 km Rainforest circuit is a little steeper, however, the lookout is the perfect spot to do a little whale watching.
The national park is also a short stroll from the hustle and bustle of James Street and the Burleigh precinct. Why not top off your walk with a tasty brekky at a local café or grab a coffee and perch yourself on top of Burleigh Hill.
- Hedges Avenue
One of my favourite Saturday morning walks is the stretch of beach along Hedges Avenue from Nobby’s Beach to Broadbeach. Start the weekend right and join the many other morning walkers strolling along the very exclusive Hedges Ave. Stop in at Bam Bam Bakehouse or Café on Hedges along the way, for a delicious brunch. You will not be disappointed!
- Hinze Dam
Thinking of exploring a little more of the Gold Coast hinterland? Why not try Hinze Dam? Hinze Dam is located a short distance from Nerang and offers numerous walking, biking and horse-riding tracks. There are also picnic tables if you want to pack a lunch, or stop by View Café for some great meals. I can highly recommend the steak sandwich.
- Natural Bridge
Getting back to nature is often a great way to de-stress. Natural Bridge is a short drive from the Gold Coast and has a great walking track. Highlights include beautiful waterfalls, tranquil creeks and the glowworms. To fully appreciate the glowworms consider taking the walk at dusk.
- Lamington National Park
If you are looking to get out of the house for the day, a day trip to Lamington National park might just be the ticket. Take in sweeping views of rolling hills and lush rainforest on your way up the mountain. At the top there are numerous walking tracks varying in distance and difficulty, café and hotel facilities as well as beautiful wildlife that aren’t afraid to get up close and personal.
Local tip – stop by Metz Café in Canungra on the drive out to enjoy great coffee, a delicious breakfast/lunch menu and friendly staff.
