Time to Unwind
Congratulations to everyone for getting through the first trimester of 2018! It has been a massive start to the year as we saw the GC2018 Commonwealth Games take over as well as many events going on around campus. Now that you have the time to relax, what will you be doing to unwind? If you’re an out of town student or just looking for new places to discover check out our list of what to do around the Gold Coast.
Burleigh Heads
If you haven’t made your way down to Burleigh yet, then make sure you do over the holidays! There are many hidden gems to discover such as coffee shops, boutique stores and markets to check out.Burleigh hosts an arts and craft market every month as well as a boutique fashion and lifestyle market on every week. If you’re looking to discover wildlife, then head down to the David Fleay Wildlife Park where you can stroll through natural habitats. You can also hire out paddle boards or kayaks in the area while you soak up the Gold Coast skyline.
Coolangatta
Coolangatta (also known as ‘cooly’) is another quirky area to check out if you’re looking to surf or chill out by the beach with a view. There are some great places to check out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner overlooking the surf. Whale watching is another popular activity for everyone in the area. Check out what events Coolangatta has to offer before heading down.
Mount Tamborine
If you’re looking to be immersed by nature, then head up to Mount Tamborine. There are different levels of hikes to do on the mountain. It’s only a 45 minute drive away so perfect for a day trip or even an overnight stay. Mt Tamborine has numerous activities and shops to discover as well and different wineries, cheese, and coffee tastings. If you’re a thrill seeker you can hop on a hot air balloon or even go paragliding.
Food Markets
Are you a foodie? Then check out these markets on the Gold Coast:
- Miami Marketta– An international street food market held on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays in Miami.
- Nightquarter– Another street food night market open on Fridays and Saturdays in Helensvale.
Study Gold Coast Event
Now that you have the time to get stuff done why not look into sprucing up your resume over the holidays. Check out Study Gold Coast’s event Job Club. Bring your laptop and Study Gold Coast will provide the coffee and snacks during an information filled session on resume writing, cover letters, applying for jobs and interview preparation.
