Griffith Open Day, coming up on Sunday 11 August, showcases the wide range of opportunities at the University, and offers prospective students and their families a chance to experience what university life is all about.
As well as over 200 information sessions across the Nathan, South Bank and Gold Coast campuses, there are a wide range of activities, such as tours and demonstrations to check out to give you a taste of what Griffith has on offer.
Below are some of my top picks for Griffith Open Day 2019.

Vice Chancellor’s Welcome

Try the amazing library race
All day, Gold Coast, Nathan and South Bank campus libraries
Outline your own adventure around the libraries in our amazing library race at all three Open Day locations. Explore the library by completing a series of tasks and challenges, and you’ll be in the running for a bunch of prizes.
Go on a campus tour
Running every 30 minutes throughout the day from various meeting points on each campus, these tours are a great chance to explore your study options. They take in several of the standalone activities and information sessions on Open Day, so check you aren’t going to the same thing twice.
Attend a Go Global information session

Journalism lab tour

Meet Baxter, the gentle giant robot

Medicine facilities and anatomy lab tour
Event area A – meet at the medicine booth, 9am-2pm
Join an interactive tour with medical students in our problem-based learning rooms, clinical skills lab and anatomy lab. Tours depart every 30 minutes.
Law skills interactive demonstration

View the mooting skills of Griffith law students first-hand as they play out a court-room scenario.
Liveworm Studio

Griffith students work on commercial projects at Liveworm Studio, an embedded Work Integrated Learning design studio. Check out what it’s all about.

Paramedicine facilities lab tour

Check out the paramedicine lab, which is set up to put students into high-pressure situations that improve their decision-making abilities. These critical skills could mean the difference between life and death.
Psychology in action: Activities and experiments

Get your head around what it’s like studying psychology with some cognitive experiments.
Nathan
Nathan campus is Griffith’s original campus. It is home to 13,000 students and is situated on the edge of Toohey Forest, just 15 minutes south of the Brisbane CBD.
Aviation flight procedures lab

Put your flying goggles on and prepare to learn about how we train pilots at Griffith University.
EcoCentre animal, solar technology and sustainable living displays

Explore the sustainably designed EcoCentre, learn about low-impact building materials and clean energy and say hello to some of our animal friends.
Experience engineering at Griffith tour
Meet at engineering booth event area A, 9am-2pm
The Nathan campus is an engineering hub, covering all types of engineering, from software to civil. This tour is built to show you the breadth of Griffith’s engineering excellence.
Financial trading room activity
N50 0.32, 10am-1.30pm
Aspiring financial traders will be in heaven at Nathan’s financial trading room. It’s a simulation of what professional traders experience, as they monitor Bloomberg terminals and see a wash of numbers going up and down all around them. It’s enough to get the adrenalin pumping for anyone with an interest in finance.
Journalism lab tour
Event area B – meet at humanities, languages and social science booth, 11.30am-12pm, 1pm-1.30pm.
Few industries have been disrupted more by the rise of the internet than journalism, but Griffith’s journalism lab has kept up with these changes, so that students understand what’s expected of them in a modern newsroom. Check out the latest audio-visual technology on this journalism lab tour.

Science labs discovery tour

Visit our chemistry lab, biosciences lab and Centre for Quantum Dynamics and get a first-hand look at the innovative facilities at the disposal of Griffith science students. Tours depart every 30 minutes.
Slime workshop

What does it feel like to be a first-year law student?

For many students, beginning university is a walk into the unknown. It’s different from high school, but most of us quickly get into the rhythm of it. Attend this lecture to get an insight into what first year would hold for you as a law student.
South Bank
South Bank is our home of the creative and performing arts comprised of the Griffith Film School, Queensland College of Art and Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.

South Bank is Griffith University’s visual and creative arts hub. A range of galleries and studios are open to the public to visit on Open Day, including the Contemporary Australian and Indigenous art studio, Glass Box Gallery, Grey Street Gallery, Griffith University Art Museum, and the Webb Gallery.
If you can’t make it to Open Day, don’t worry, there are events throughout the year, including Q&A sessions with our student recruitment officers and mature student open evenings to explore study options and pathways here at Griffith.
