Your ultimate guide to Griffith’s major parties – Gold Coast campus
One of the ultimate perks of being a university student is the generous amount of regular parties we get to attend. So that you don’t miss any of these important events, I’m going to break down the upcoming parties of the year and give you a little insight, so here goes:
Guild Ball
Easily the most glamorous and formal event of the year. Typically kicking off nice and early, the Guild Ball is the ultimate chance to grab a beautiful dress or tux, polish some shoes and enjoy a night of live entertainment, drinks, food, dancing and so much more! My only tip – ladies, make sure you give yourself plenty of time before the ball to get your snaps, because the ballroom fills extremely quickly once doors open.
Toga Party
Whether being Hercules was always in your fantasies, or you felt that Greek Goddess is in your blood, this is the only party you’ll ever need to fulfil that dream. This theme is the ultimate chance for you to wrap your body in white bed sheets and fill your hair with your backyard off-cuts, because this party is historically (pun intended) one of the best there is.
Race Day
Probably the second most glamorous day of the year – the infamous Race Day! The perfect opportunity to put a dazzling fascinator in your hair and have an incredible day on the green. Now please take my word for this, it sells out QUICK! I strongly encourage you to make sure you’re at the Student Guild early on the release day, or make sure you’re ready to jump online before the tickets sell out. The only thing you don’t want to get on too early is the champagne, because just remember that unlike the horses, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
Beach Party
This is the party for the easy going party-goers. Because no matter who you are, everyone has something in their closet beach related (so no excuses to not go!). The standard clothing items you’ll see at this beach bonanza are Hawaiian shirts (duh), floaties, coconut tops and straw skirts, and of course lots of leis.
Back to School Party
Oh the typical back to school party – even though for the most part it feels like we haven’t left school. So it’s time to dust off your high-school ties and squeeze into skirts because the back to school party is one not too miss. I mean, who doesn’t love going on a trip down memory lane and reminiscing your high school days (although with a lot less eye-liner). One of my favourite things about this event is seeing where everyone went to school and noticing familiar faces that you haven’t seen in years!
Doctors and Nurses Party
I absolutely love this day, because as I business student I envy all of the studying doctors and nurses who get to wear their health uniforms and scrubs every other day. So I encourage you to get creative with this theme, whether you’re like me who rocks a full suit of scrubs (with splashes of blood), or your preference swings towards a stylish doctor’s outfit, just make sure you’re dressed up – because this is one party where everyone goes all out!
Halloween Party
This is one party I haven’t been brave enough to attend, although I have heard all of the wild things (and seen all of the incredible costumes). We are so lucky we live in a modern age where you can get spooky make up tutorials online and free at any time – so there is no excuse as to why you can’t hit your scary peak! Although, having a friend who is a make up artist will really come in handy here.
