Life at the Conservatorium – audition tips and tricks
Congratulations on receiving an invitation to audition. To help you prepare for the next step, the audition itself, students from the Conservatorium share their top tips and tricks.
1. Purpose
Why are you auditioning for the Conservatorium? Some people get so caught up in the stress surrounding the audition that they forget why they are auditioning for the Con. Make sure you’re auditioning for yourself and not for anyone else.
2. Be known
The Conservatorium hosts many events where faculty and students are present. Come along to one of the many events before or after your audition to get a feel for what life as a student is really like.
3. DON’T BE LATE
Make sure you arrive with plenty of time to spare.
4. Preparation is key
Put effort into your audition work and learn your songs, monologues or pieces before you arrive. Be sure to read all materials related to your auditions and bring an extra copy of your pieces and your CV just in case.
5. Bring your essentials
Be sure to pack a snack, water and any essentials you may need. Some auditions may take all day, so plan ahead.
6. Enjoy the process
Once you’re prepared and ready, be sure to enjoy the auditioning process – it’s a learning experience.
Good luck.
